Preconception Support in Austin

Matrescence gracefully defines the big leap into motherhood. It represents the changes in the physical body, emotional body, and spirit when becoming a mother to each child. Preconception, pregnancy, and birth are rights of passage that prepare a mother for matrescence. Today, we are going to dive into preconception and how having support during this time can benefit you.

So, what is preconception?

Preconception is the period of time before a baby has been conceived. It is the first step towards parenthood, which makes it just as important as the other steps! During this time, parents-to-be can prepare physically, mentally, practically, and spiritually for the glorious (and challenging!) journey ahead. It’s fairly common these days for a family to have support during labor and postpartum (which we are so happy about), but preconception support is a bit less common.

How can occupational therapy help?

At Matrescence Occupational Therapy, we value supporting our clients in all phases of their journey, including preconception! Our wide range of expertise allows us to take a holistic approach. Navigating lifestyle changes? Strategizing is our strength! Tackling health concerns that are making conception a bumpy road? We are primed to skillfully help you over these bumps with grace! Let’s take a look at some of the other reasons why a family might choose to have us on their team during this impactful time.

  • Education: Learning along the way about what’s happening in your body and sorting through all the information that’s out there makes for a more prepared and confident parent during and in the stages that follow preconception!

  • IVF/IUI: These treatments are common pre-conceptually and can come with unexpected challenges like mood or physical changes that can be difficult to make sense of on your own.

  • Planning: Sometimes a solid strategy is needed to get from point A to point B successfully. We can help you create and carry out a detailed plan for your journey, making sure everyone’s needs are met along the way.

  • Lifestyle Changes: This can be following a new diet and exercise routine, implementing more rest and mindfulness, balancing treatments with daily life, and more. We’re here to make sure you are your best self while checking all the boxes!

These are just a few examples of ways we help our clients during preconception. The final piece we bring is a safe space for you to process the mental and emotional hurdles that can pop up during this time, providing you with the ability to be present in your journey.
